On June 14, 1964, Herb married the love of his life, Sharon Louise Rauworth, at the Methodist Church in DeKalb. Together, they raised three sons—Marc, Darin, and Eric—and built a life centered around family, community, and service.
Herb spent nearly 40 years working at Barber Greene, later acquired by Caterpillar, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Following his retirement in 2001, he and Sharon relocated to Mesa, Arizona, to enjoy their golden years in the sunshine.
Known for his warm, friendly nature and willingness to always lend a hand, Herb was a pillar of the DeKalb community. He held leadership roles in DeKalb Youth Baseball and Boy Scout Troop 33, and served on several local boards affiliated with city government. In Arizona, he continued to stay active—most often found in his garage woodshop, crafting thoughtful projects for his church community, his home, and his grandchildren.
Herb is survived by his sons: Marc Rauworth of DeKalb, IL; Darin (Jennifer) Rauworth of Chicago, IL; and Eric (Amy) Rauworth of Hoover, AL. He was a proud grandfather to Katie and Lauren of Hoover, and Ella and Henry of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon; his parents; and his siblings, Nell Ann, Florence, and Harry.
Arrangements are entrusted to Mariposa Gardens. A private family service is being held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in Herb’s memory.
