

He served at the end of WWII as an enlisted infantry soldier and received an honorable discharge. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1952 and served again in the Army as an Ordnance officer in Korea. His awards include the WWII Occupation Medal, the Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
After his mother passed away, he received his second honorable discharge and returned to her farm in Ohio. After farming for seven years, he moved with his wife and three children to Phoenix. He owned and operated a restaurant in Phoenix and later was the owner and manager of a hardware store at McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale. When he retired, he and his wife, Virginia, moved to Mesa. They were married for 63 years.
He is survived by his wife, his sister, Iris, his son William, daughter Susan, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was dearly loved and is greatly missed.
He will be interred with military honors in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on June 1, 2015 at 10:00 AM.
