Jim, as he is known, was born on June 28, 1950, in East Stroudsburg, to Joseph and Stela Vogt and was raised in the Pocono Mountains, where he attended The Hill Preparatory School in Pottstown. He received his Bachelor of Science in Foreign Affairs at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1972. During all his years at Georgetown, he was a member of ROTC and worked in various positions in the U.S. Congress for the House of Representatives in the evenings and on weekends. After graduating from Georgetown, he was sent to U.S. Army Intelligence School in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he completed training to become a Military Intelligence Officer. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1973.
Jim moved to Southern California after his discharge from the army, and while he was working as an insurance claims adjuster, he attended Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1977. He subsequently passed the Pennsylvania Bar exam and became a member of the State Bar of Pennsylvania. Instead of pursuing a career as a lawyer, however, he continued to work his way up the ladder in various insurance companies, reaching the position of Vice President of Claims before his retirement.
Jim married Laurel in 1983, and they thoroughly enjoyed their lives together, which included cruising extensively and raising their two beautiful daughters, Renée and Suzanne. The family relocated from Calabasas, California, in 1995, to Scottsdale, Arizona. Jim loved living in the desert and played golf for many years before taking up Bridge, eventually earning the title of Life Master and found a Bridge partner and devoted friend in Gisele Strandquest.
Jim is already sorely missed by his family and friends. Jim was predeceased by his mother, father, and sister, Kim. He is survived by his loving family, Laurel, Renée, and Suzanne.
