Katherine Anne Hobson

At an early age I understood what it meant that, “Whosoever believes in me (Jesus) will not perish but have everlasting life.” I dedicated my life to serving Christ. In order to serve Christ better I studied His Word, the Bible, and took to heart that He said, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” As a high school student, I took four years of Spanish with the goal of becoming a missionary.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Theology degree at Kansas City College and Bible School in 1966, I went to Wycliffe Bible Translators training center in Oklahoma. I was unable to serve with Wycliffe because of my hearing loss. My mission field became Phoenix, Arizona area where I taught kindergarten/first grade children for 28 years at Gospel Center School, served as the secretary- treasurer at Gospel Center Church for 15 years, and cared for the sick, the needy, and the elderly.

At the age of seventy-eight I was diagnosed with cancer. My life’s work is done and my body is wearing out. As I walk through this valley of the shadow of death, I am not afraid because God has promised to be with me. God’s promises are true.

Katherine’s body died on September 22, 2021 but she is now in the presence of Jesus. She leaves behind friends and family including her three siblings: Betty (the late Jim) McGill of Nampa, Idaho, Allen (Mary Lou) Hobson of Ephrata, Washington, and Eva (Dale) Durkee of Weippe, Idaho; nieces and nephews – Becky Hobson (Ron) Blaine, Chad McGill, Danita Durkee (Anthony) Green, Tonna McGill (Brian) Hammer, Stephen (Haziel) Hobson, Ben (Jeannette) Durkee; and twelve great-nephews and seven great-nieces.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at Gospel Center Church, 919 East Mohave, Phoenix, Arizona at a later date and time. Her body will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 West Van Buren Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85009.
