

Kris Elizabeth Cartwright, 66, of Tempe, Arizona passed away on August, 25, 2025. Born on May 13, 1959, Kris spent her life making every room brighter and every person she met feel like a lifelong friend. Her infectious smile and welcoming nature defined her as a beloved figure in her community.
Kris graduated from the University of North Dakota, and she utilized her knowledge and interpersonal skills in a successful career as a real estate agent. Her professional life was marked by the same warmth and dedication she devoted to her personal interactions.
Beyond her career, Kris was committed to her community and loved ones, always looking for a way to bring people together. She was an avid photographer, capturing moments of joy and celebration within her family and community. You could find her, camera in hand, on the sidelines at any Corona del Sol sporting event dressed in orange. Her spirits of inclusion and generosity were channeled in her passion for hosting events for family gatherings and community celebrations where all were welcome.
Kris' family was the center of her world. She is survived by her husband, Dan Cartwright; children, Katie (Nate) Gunderman, Austin Cartwright, and Kelsey (Rick) Riley; and grandchildren, Parker Riley, Logan Riley, Homer Gunderman, and Clara Gunderman. Each of them reflects facets of Kris's spirit and character, continuing her legacy of kindness and community.
A service to celebrate Kris’ life will be held on September 12, 2025, at 10 AM at Arizona Community Church located at 9325 S Rural Rd, Tempe, AZ 85284. Her life was a testament to the power of warmth and connection, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
To celebrate Kris’ love for animals and zoo trips with her children and grandchildren, the family asks that donations be made to the Phoenix Zoo instead of flowers. Your gift will go toward a memorial bench at the Zoo, offering a lasting place of rest and remembrance for all who visit.
