He had the BEST smile; it was like Heaven shining when he flashed it
His eyes were bright, piercing, mischievous and kind
His laugh was contagious
He loved music, especially Beethoven’s (9th Symphony), Holst (The Planets), Mannheim Steamroller and Mason Williams’ Classical Gas, also Bread, Chicago and Moody Blues
He played the trombone in high school and with Mormon Youth Symphony
He had the voice of an angel; we held our breath when he sang
Kurt was an Eagle Scout
He moved with grace, he enjoyed, baseball as a switch hitter and pitcher, basketball, water and snow skiing, tennis, GOLF
He was really, really, REALLY SMART, VERY SMART (yes, he was proudly a left-handed Nerd!)
He was a Journeyman Electrician and taught his three sons the trade
During high school he worked in the computer lab at University of Utah which paved the way for his programming skills as a Systems and Controls Engineer
He designed, created and built machines that did intricate tasks (one of which was patented)
He knew how things worked, he just knew
He understood the cosmos, He was an observer, a thinker of deep thoughts
He could see things that other’s missed or couldn’t see
He knew the answers to any question… and tried to explain it so anyone could understand
We now have so many unanswered questions…
He learned construction from his dad at an early age
He skillfully built two beautiful, amazing homes
He was especially happy when working along side his children, whether it was a scout project, pouring cement, laying sod, installing the electricity in a new home building a dining room table or sharing
He found great joy in cutting wood and had fun collecting woodworking tools and gadgets
He created masterpiece tables, he designed chairs and beds, his ideas were endless
He honored his priesthood, enjoyed boy scouting, missionary work and ward clerking
He loved the genealogical hunt and the rewarding temple work
He was proud of his heritage and pioneer ancestry
He was a prolific reader, a veritable encyclopedia of all things Tolkien, Isaac Asimov, Terry Brooks, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune, Tom Clancy and Orson Scott Card
Kurt was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, served a mission to Kansas Missouri, studied the scriptures intently and knew his Savior Jesus Christ
Kurt loved nature. Backpacking in Coyote Gulch, the Wind Rivers, fishing especially at Lake Powell. He absolutely loved our family trips to Lake Powell. So many stories! His Dutch oven creations were divine!
Kurt loved his family; he had the biggest heart he gave generously with no thought of himself, he taught his children honesty and kindness and the value of hard work. He cherished spending time together and he adored his grandchildren.
His last golf trip brought the biggest smile, and he burst with pride as he watched his kids perfect their swings.
We love you and miss you always.
Our gratitude to all those at MD Anderson (Banner Gateway) and Hospice of the Valley, you heard him and helped him and laughed and cried with us all, thank you!!!
“Sorry Beck, I’m jumping ship”
