

L. Jean Maier, 80. of Mesa, AZ passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010. Laura Jean Brooks was born in Nortonville, ND on January 10, 1930, the third daughter of Louis C. and Laura (Dorwin) Brooks. She graduated from Nortonville High School in 1948, attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, and she received a certificate in teaching in 1950. She taught in rural schools around the Aberdeen area. On Nov. 26, 1950 she married William J. Maier at the First Methodist Church in Nortonville, ND. After leaving teaching she worked for the federal government offices of the Internal Revenue Services, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Indian Health Services in Aberdeen. In 1972, Jean & Bill moved to Sioux Falls SD where Jean worked for the US Marshall’s Office until her retirement in 1995.
In 2000, Jean moved to Sunland Village to be near her daughter, Rose Taylor (Connie), her two granddaughters and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband of 29 years, William J. Maier.
She will be buried in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Aberdeen SD. A memorial service by the Minerva Chapter # 6 of the Order of Eastern Star will be held Oct. 11, 2010 at the Masonic Temple of Aberdeen, SD, with a visitation from 2 to 5 pm. Arrangements were entrusted to Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, Mesa, AZ.
