Marvin L. Smith of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 surrounded by his family in Mesa. He was 85 years old. He was born in Clive Iowa on August 22, 1925 and then served in the European Theatre as part of the US Army during World War II. After returning home from the war he met Venda Cruse and they married in 1948. In 1956 their son Steve was born. Smitty spent 30 years working as an engineer for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines, Iowa. After retirement Venda and Smitty moved to Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed many happy years together. He is survived by his wife, Venda, son Steve and grandson Eric. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Apache Wells Community Church 2115 North Gayridge Road Mesa, Arizona 85215 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts may be given in his name to Apache Wells Community Church.
