

Melinda Chloe Monson passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 16th, 2023, in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 81. She was born May 19th, 1942, in Riverside, California to Kenneth (Ken) Wilson and Charline Aletra (Yeager) Smith. Melinda was the 2nd child born to Ken and Charline. Melinda’s mother subsequently remarried to a military man which resulted in many transfers to various locations and the birth of Melinda’s baby sister, Kathy Sammon. Melinda’s most memorable city to live during her childhood was Nagoya, Japan in the early 1950’s.
In her late teens, Melinda moved to Fairfield, California where she attended Armijo High School and met Kent Monson. Kent and Melinda were married on April 28th, 1962.
Melinda had a long career in banking, like her father Ken. Melinda enjoyed her many years as a banker which resulted in many close friendships with her colleagues.
Melinda’s first son, Richard (Rick) Lyn Monson was born November 2nd, 1963, when she was just 21 years old. Her second son, Brett Alan Monson, was born March 30th, 1968. Melinda relocated with her family to many cities as her husband’s career resulted in multiple transfers. Melinda's work ethic, reliability and attention to detail allowed her to quickly gain employment at a new bank in each city. Monterey, California was her favorite city due its natural beauty and wildlife.
Melinda is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Gary Phillip, her sister, Kathy Sammon-Long, and Kent Monson her beloved husband of 59 years.
Melinda is survived by her son Rick Monson, his wife Karla, and son Brett Monson

Brett’s daughters and families: Rachel (Monson) and Brock Haney (with daughters Oakley, Sage and Josie); Lauren (Monson) and Ethan Smith (with daughters Jane, Lucy and baby #3 due Oct 2023); Krista (Monson) and Bayley Cook (with son Callum).
A celebration of Melinda's life is scheduled for 3:00pm Saturday, October 21st at:
