Mickey Lee Sickles was born on April 1st, 1939 in Socorro New Mexico to George Lee Roy Sickles and Sarah Helms. He was the oldest of 3 half-brothers; David Sickles, Frank Sickles and Robert Morrisette. He graduated from Magdalena High School and he attended the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, NM. He later joined the Marines and was Honorably Discharged. He then went to work with his father George at the family owned Texaco station in Datil, NM. That is where he met the love of his life Belen V. Sickles, his wife of over 60 years, and they were married after just 1 month… He went to work for the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Port of Entry where it was his job to inspect 18 wheelers to make sure that they were weight compliant (among other things). He then went to work for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company mine in Miami, AZ as a security guard and then retired from there. Mickey attended and graduated from the AZ Law Enforcement Training Academy in Tucson and then worked for the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles where he retired from.
Mickey and Belen had 2 beautiful daughters, Debi Sickles and Karen Creel who Mickey loved very much. Debi preceded Mickey in death on March 26th, 2021.
Mickey was devoted to his family, he loved to hunt and fish, loved country music and cats. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. He loved his 8 sisters-in-law and their husbands very much and he also loved and held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews. Mickey loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen… We all heard of his friend Homer a time or two! Mickey always said, “if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all”…
Mickey is survived by his wife Belen V. Sickles, his daughter Karen Creel and her husband Michael Creel, 7 grandsons Brian, Kevin, Randy and Corey Carroll and Dillon, Tanner and Trevor Creel and 1 granddaughter Tara Creel. He has 7 great grandchildren, Hayden, Connor, Ellie, Addy, Jade, Tanner Jr. and Harlow.
We will all miss you Mickey and you are forever in our hearts. Your work here on Earth is done and our Heavenly Father has called you home. We love you Mickey! Rest in Peace.
