A private service for her family will be held in Mesa, AZ.; in Williams, AZ where she loved spending time in the mountains, and in Merrifield, MN. to scatter her ashes along with her beloved Shephard "Odie".
Monica, or better known by her grandchildren as "Mimi", was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1944 to Alonzo Grand Pre' and Violet (Bierman) Grand Pre' of Merrifield, MN. where she attended Crosby Ironton High School and was raised at Elm Bay Resort on Upper Mission Lake.
After high school and while attending Beauty College in St. Cloud, MN., Monica met her first husband, Gary, who gave her two awesome (just saying) daughters. She and her family moved to Mesa, AZ. where she worked in the medical field and for various newspaper publications spending her free time taking her 2 girls on many adventures.
When she met her second husband, Lonnie, the journey continued as she enjoyed the outdoors on family camping trips, with her kids and grand kids and loved shooting for target practice.
Throughout her life and the many adventures of her free spirited heart, she enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, songs and books; researching family history, discussing politics and economics with anyone who would listen (and would slip in the subject any chance should could because that was her passion), and was known for her love of all things 4 legged ("the dog whisperer"). She had a special grace about her with a beautiful smile, even up to the end of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Grand Pre'; 2 husbands, Gary Negaard and Lonnie Rohrig; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She leaves her two daughters, Kristin Negaard (Curtis Peck) of Dewey, AZ. and Holly (Troy) Franzmeier of Mesa, AZ.; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Troy) Denton of Prescott Valley, AZ. and Brittney Franzmeier of Mesa, AZ; two grandsons, Beau (Bronte) Grand Pre' of Chino Valley, AZ. and Johnathan Franzmeier of Mesa, AZ.; one step grandson, Michael Peck of Phoenix, AZ.; one great grand child "Baby" Grand Pre' due in May 2016; three step great grand children, TJ. (Chasity) Denton of Prescott Valley, AZ., Cody Denton of Baker City, OR, and Macey Denton of Prescott Valley, AZ.; one sister Veronica (Roger) Sjovall of Minneapolis, MN.; one niece Valerie Sjovall of Anoka, MN. as well as her long time friend Colleen Laffey of Apache Junction, AZ.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but will always be with them in spirit and in loving memory. May she be at peace in the meadows and on the shores of the lake where she grew up.
