Paul Merrell

Paul was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose strong work ethic, and stoic grace left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Paul was born on February 21, 1940, in Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Northwestern High School where he was an accomplished athlete competing in basketball and baseball.

Paul shared a loving marriage of 23 years with his wife, Maryjane Merrell. After losing Maryjane to cancer in 1990, he found love again 1992 when he married Delia Soto Merrell and shared 29 loving years together.

He was the proud father of one son, Michael Merrell, and one daughter, Talina “Tina” Merrell. He was also a devoted and loving stepfather to Lisa Swift, Angela Lewis, Arthur Gonzalez and Victoria Wilkinson. Paul cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather with a combined total of 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Paul proudly worked for Motorola Semiconductor Group as a Senior Maintenance Technician and Supervisor for over 35 years. He was devoted to his work and was known for his strong work ethic, determination, and resourcefulness. He could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Paul’s true passion was the sport of golf. He was a longtime member of the Motorola Golf League where he had the opportunity to play some of the most prestigious golf courses. He shared his passion for golf with several of his children, grandchildren and other family members.

He was a passionate fan of the hometown basketball and baseball teams, the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Later in his life, he found the Gospel of Jesus Christ and became a member of CCV church. The day he was baptized was one of the happiest days of his life.

Paul is survived by his daughter Talina Merrell; his stepdaughters Lisa Swift, Angela Lewis, Victoria Wilkinson and stepson Arthur Gonzalez; his 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Arbel Merrell (Haworth); his father, Orman Merrell; his brother Dale Merrell; his wives Maryjane Merrell (Waggoner) and Delia Merrell (Morales); and his son Micheal Dean Merrell.

Paul Merrell will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the life he lived, and the family he cherished.
