Margaret “Peggy” Eileen Mc Kay Bjerke was born on January 3,1919, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Ellen King McKay and the late William James McKay. Peggy passed away at age 99, on March 15, 2018, in Mesa, Arizona. She was the loving wife of the late Jeroy “Jerry” Elmer Bjerke.
Peggy met Jerry, the love of her life, on a Greyhound bus. They were wed in Ames, Iowa and were married 59 years. Together they had nine children. Peggy and Jerry lived in Detroit, Chicago, Grand Forks, Salt Lake City and then in Reseda, California for 45 years. Soon after the passing of Jerry, Peggy moved to Mesa, Arizona.
Peggy graduated from Visitation Catholic High School, Detroit, Michigan. She had an unwavering faith in God as a devoted Catholic. Peggy had an amazing ability to connect with people. Wherever she moved she made loving and lasting friendships. Peggy’s bravery, grace, and kindness during years of declining health were an inspiration to her family and all that knew her.
Preceded in death by her sons William and Erik, and sisters Cathy, Gene, and Pat, Peggy is survived by her daughters Erin (John) Hines, and Brigid, and sons Jeb (Charlene Simpson), Brian (Laura), Thad (Hilda), Patrick (Jo Ann), and Barat; grandchildren Sean Hines (Kelly), Molly Hines Essa, Meggen Hines Fife (Greg), Mc Kay Hines (Jami), Christopher Bjerke Ruhl (Annie), Jeb Bjerke (Kate), Sarah Lyle (Matt), Jo Erin Lewis (Tim), and Danzel Bjerke; great grandchildren Weston, Brady, Daylen, Katie, William, Julia, Henry, Keegan, and Ciaran.
Friends and family members may attend the memorial service on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10 AM. The funeral home will be Mariposa Gardens, 6747 E. Broadway, Mesa, Arizona.
