Porter is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Betty Lou (Darby) and son Porter Allen Jr. He is survived by daughters Betty Diann Williams and Patricia (Robert) Schaefer; grandchildren Christopher M. Williams, Katherine E. Schaefer, Phillip (Lindsay) Schaefer, and Daniel (Katherine A.) Schaefer; great grandchildren Kailee McCoy, Austin Williams, Teagan Schaefer, Tippen Schaefer, Rowen Schaefer, and Emme Schaefer.
Porter served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Specialist, Cryptographer, 2nd class in Guam. He retired as a Civil Engineer in 2007 from the city of Kansas City and moved to Mesa in 2008. He was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Mesa, AZ.
