

Heaven gained an amazing man in the early morning hours on January 20, 2026. Richard Leon Korsmo passed away at home in Gilbert, Arizona, surrounded by his loving children, Jim and Lori, at the age of 95.
Richard was born on September 13, 1930, in Northwood, North Dakota, to Norin and Hilda (Hoveland) Korsmo. He was raised on the family farm and attended country schools along with his siblings.
Richard met Dolores Gast while she was teaching in Northwood, marrying while on leave from the Army on August 10, 1954. He served in the US Army until his discharge in May, 1956. The family lived in Wahpeton, ND, where he completed trade school, then they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where Richard worked for Ell’s Sheet Metal for many years, retiring in Gilbert, AZ.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife Dolores, his parents, Hilda and Norin Korsmo, as well as his siblings, Joseph Korsmo, Alvin Korsmo, Solvig Strand, Norin Korsmo, Peder Korsmo, Vallie Berdal. and Lenore Meland.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Home in the San Tan Room at 12:00 PM on February 11, 2026, located at 6747 East Broadway Road; Mesa, AZ, 85206. There will be a gathering after the service in the same room from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Drinks and snacks will be served.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, if so inclined, please make a charitable donation or contribution to honor Richard: Phoenix Children’s Hospital; St. Mary’s Food Bank; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Richard is survived by his son Jim (Barb) Korsmo, daughter Lori (Thom/Deceased) Chapman, grandchild Alexis (Zach) Simpson, his ‘bonus’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
