Richard James O’Marro, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in Mesa, Arizona. Richard was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota on December 5, 1944 to Clifford and Dorothy O’Marro who preceded him in death. Richard was an outgoing, flexible, free spirited person with a sensitivity to others that made him very likeable and sought after in social circles. He always had a joke to tell and a smile to share. He enjoyed farming and because he had the ability to identify new solutions to problems, working on anything mechanical was of great interest. Woodshop was Richard’s favorite class when he attended Shandley High School. He graduated in 1963 and began college at the North Dakota State School of Science where he majored in Lithography. In 1965 he joined the U. S. Navy where he served on The USS Newport News achieving the rank of SN (E-3) and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal as well as an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal following a service tour at Guantanamo Bay. Throughout his life Richard collected hand guns and rifles, enjoyed hunting, and was a gun range advocate. He especially enjoyed working on cars. Richard retired in Tempe, Arizona in 2008 from Arizona Business Forms where he had been employed for the past 20 years. He loved to travel and some of his favorite vacations were spent in San Felipe, Mexico, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Washington D. C., and New Orleans. Richard is survived by his loving wife Tiva, siblings Jean (John) Brekke, Steven O’Marro, Mark O’Marro, Joan (Keith) Slusher, son Richard O’Marro II, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, August 11th, 2011 at 5:00 pm at Melcher Mortuary Mission Chapel, 6625 East Main Street, Mesa, Arizona
