Robert Russell (Bob) Kerr was born in Minneapolis, Minn. He received his education in mechanical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Minnesota. During World War II, in 1943, he married Alvera Lovewell . She was an Army nurse who served in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a B-17 co-pilot in the Army Air Corps, based in England. On a bombing run to Berlin, his plane was shot down and he parachuted into occupied Denmark. The Danish Resistance smuggled him out to Sweden. They raised three children, living in Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio. He worked as a product engineer in the field of household appliances. Upon retirement, they moved to Arizona and have lived in Friendship Village since 1999. Memorial donations in his name can be sent to the Health Care Center of Friendship Village, 2525 E.
