With hearts full of love, we remember our dear uncle and brother, Robert Rudolph Melcher, who passed peacefully at the age of 99.
Robert lived a life rich with laughter, kindness, and adventure. A proud farmer of Calimyrna figs in Fresno, California, he worked alongside his mom Ruth, dad Rudolph and sister Betty with joy and dedication to the family business Melcher Farms. His inventive spirit and gift for welding and woodcarving brought beauty and creativity into the world.
A World War II veteran, Robert carried a treasury of stories and a heart of service. The great outdoors was his happy place, where he found peace and inspiration. Known for his joyful laugh and caring nature, Robert was always ready to help others through hard times. The love of his life is his late wife Phyllis, who was his constant companion and joy.
Robert leaves behind his beloved sister Betty, nieces Darlene and Susan, great-nieces Jamie, Brandy, and Tammy, and seven wonderful great-great-great nieces and nephews. Also left behind are his loving stepdaughter Pam, and cherished step-granddaughters Bridget and Tara.
The family and Robert wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated BrightStar Nursing Team—Nicole, Malissa, Tiffany, Sheri, Brittany, and Jessica—for their exceptional care, compassion, and friendship. Deep thanks also go to the VA Hospital Team—Jennifer and Emily, and case worker Margot—for their valued loving service, kindness and friendship.
We also sincerely thank Veteran Affinity’s Rick and Les for their loving support, friendships and dedication to minimizing barriers for veterans’ care, and to Assisteo Hospice for their gentle guidance and comfort. You are all true heroes.
Robert will forever remain in our hearts—in this world and beyond.
