I was Robert's, Lucy's and Nancy's neighbor for over 30 years.  Robert was always a joy to see and with whom to talk.  He was a kind-hearted, gentle and bright soul and I know he touched so many people in his life.  I have such fond memories of his family......his dear sister and mother too.  He left his mark of love and light on this earth.

Lucy and Richard, I just want you to know I'm thinking of you as you get used to life without your mom and brother.  It's a big thing to lose them--Lucy, especially--and, I hope the world will open kindly to you from here on out.  So many adjustments to make.  My thoughts and prayers--and love--are with you both, Cousin Barbie

Robert was the kindest soul and would help anyone for any reason.  He loved movies, especially older ones and we talked about his favorites often. Robert's gentle personality and sweet nature will truly be missed by all who worked and knew him personally.

Robert was my older brother and I feel fortunate to have had him in my life.  From our days in West Chicago, IL at Lincoln Elementary School --- playing in the snow, making leaf forts in the chilly orange-colored Falls, collecting comic books and bubblegum cards, assembling model kits -- through our big family move to Scottsdale Arizona in the mid-1960s, I could always rely on Robert to never take things too seriously and to see the humor in everything.  He had a keen sense of the silly and the ridiculous.  We watched Laurel and Hardy, W.C. Fields and the Three Stooges whenever we could.  In fact, Robert began collecting old movies, which, back then, you had to purchase, through the mail, as 8mm or 16mm films.  Many hot Arizona summer days were spent inside our (mercifully) air-conditioned family room, where Robert set up his projectors and ran his old movies, often only for an audience of two, him and me.  Old-time comedies and cartoons, Castle Films, Universal monsters, even old commercials and movie trailers -- we savored them over and over, until we could quote every line.  

When summers ended we'd take the same walk, , everyday for four years, from out house on Valley Vista Drive to Saguaro High.  We'd hurry home in the afternoon to see Wallace and Ladmo or Dark Shadows on TV.  On weekends, there might be a movie at Scottsdale's Kachina Cinerama Theatre, or maybe a few hours at the bookstore and a stop at The Sugar Bowl for ice cream with my Mom and sister Lucy.

So much of the places and people I remember from those days are gone.  And now Robert is gone, too.  But his memory, his sense of humor and quirky way of looking at the world are all still alive in me.  Rest In Peace, Robert, my big brother.

I'd like to share a few things about my brother, Robert. He was a wonderful brother and son. I'm so grateful that he was a part of our family.

He was always ready to help with anything around the house. He took pride in keeping up the lawn and yard, putting in hours of effort on his days off.

He had a generous nature. He enjoyed watching and giving to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon every year and gave to other charities. He liked giving. He was always ready to help our Mom financially if there was a need.

His love of America showed when after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, he put the flag out every morning, bringing it in each evening. He did this faithfully every day until his illness.

He had a wide variety of interests and spent a lot of time reading. Recently, he read books on Spanish and math and most of the fifty states. He enjoyed learning.

For entertainment and fun he liked classic films. Favorites were comedies with W.C. Fields, the Marx Brothers and Jerry Lewis.

He loved musicals like the Music Man, anything with Judy Garland and so many others. But his special favorite was Mario Lanza - all of his movies and cds. He was a big fan of his voice.

Robert was really drawn to the beauty of flowers. He gave flowers to our Mom on every appropriate occasion. When he was sick he enjoyed receiving them or ordering them himself. He really thrilled to their fragrance and beauty.

He loved his red Mustang. He didn't like to drive it anywhere unless it was clean and shiny.

There was a time a few years ago when he would spend quite a while looking up into the stars at night. If you asked him what he was doing, he would say, "Just thinking".

He was a very special person and I'll miss him more than I can say.
