She was born in Chicago, IL on 28 February 1940. Bobbie received a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics from Northern Illinois University and married Lt. Robert L Gray 15 December 1962. Soon after Bob was off to Vietnam and Bobbie and two girls went to Normal, IL near his parents. Bobbie earned a Master’s in Mathematics from Illinois State University while there. Bobbie and kids followed wherever Bob was stationed. One stint in California, Bobbie received/earned a teaching certificate and substitute taught in the local middle school.
When Bob retired from the Air Force in 1984 they moved to Arizona. Bobbie got a teaching certificate and taught at Mesa Community College for a couple years. Bob got a real estate license. Realizing there were parts of the real estate business her husband didn’t like that she would, Bobbie earned a real estate license. She walked the Dobson Ranch neighborhood with real estate flyers and met many, many people. Even six months ago she could still tell you about several houses and the people they sold houses to. They retired their business about 2008.
Bobbie was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Tempe, Arizona where she served for years in the Christian Science Reading Room. Whether in the Reading Room or at church she talked easily with anyone. She would introduce herself to everyone and find out each person’s story. She attended a water aerobics class that called themselves “waterbabes” and still meets for lunch once a month for birthdays. Bobbie attended classes at New Frontiers and a group of ladies met to play word games. They met at a restaurant on Tuesdays even after New Frontier classes were no longer of interest.
In 2022, Bob and Bobbie celebrated 60 years of marriage at the Dobson Community Room. Dec 2023, they celebrated 61 years with lobster and steak (a favorite of Bob’s) at the house. Last December, they celebrated 62 years with a potluck including honeybaked ham, one of Bobbie’s favorites.
Bobbie is survived by her husband Bob, daughters Barbara Weiser, Bonnie Gatine, Becky Waisley, grandchildren Christina, Delaney, Cooper, James and Tristan.
