August 16, 1927 – January 29, 2022
Ross Joseph Muirhead, 94 years, passed away at home in Mesa, Arizona on January 29, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. Ross was at peace with his illness and ready to meet the Lord, with his loving wife of 55 years, Angie, at his side.
Born in Monroe, Washington to parents Ross Sr. and Agnes (Garrity) Muirhead, young Ross J. held his own alongside four sisters – Barbara, Jeannie, Ellen, and Nancy. Maybe this was why he developed a finely honed, wry sense of humor and a perhaps “necessary” competitive nature!
These traits served him well as he became an outstanding athlete at Monroe High School, lettering in football and track, and even took flying lessons during the summer! (Later in life, Ross developed a passion for tennis, both as a player and was a very active volunteer for the Senior Tennis circuit in Arizona.)
The advent of WWII found Ross in the US Navy, stationed on the USS Benington operating in the Pacific. Thankfully, the war ended just as Ross was scheduled to use his interest in flying and begin US Navel flight training.
Following the war, Ross J. attended USC with his fellow veterans before he settled in Seattle, attending and the University of Washington and eventually began his long business association with Sears & Roebuck, and the JAFCO corporation. He also married (Joanne) and became a family man with four children: Ross E., Marc, Cathy and Scott.
In 1971, Ross moved to his permanent home in Mesa, Arizona to begin a new chapter in his life: a new, successful business and new love of his life, Angie Fromm, whom he had wed a few years earlier in 1966.
In Arizona, Ross sharpened his game and love of tennis, and developed friendships over a cold beer post-match, with partners and opponents alike. Right now, he’s probably exercising a wicked ground game and then engaging in lots of courtside chatter in the great tennis clouds above!
Ross was preceded in death by his four sisters and his eldest son, Ross E. Muirhead. He is survived by his wife Angie, daughter Cathy Lejeune and two sons, Marc (Julie) Muirhead, Scott
(Charlene) Muirhead, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
We love and miss you dad Ross! Rest in peace.
