Sonja Coffelt

Age 67 unexpectedly passed away on May 21, 2013. Sonja was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 15, 1945 to William T. Brumlow and Olive Marie (Ohls) Ralls. Both parents and a brother Carroll Roberson preceded her in death. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School. She also graduated from Arapahoe Community College in Colorado with a legal assistant’s degree. She and her husband of 49 years Larry Coffelt were married in 1964 at Creighton Methodist Church in Phoenix. They have one daughter Lonna Owens and her husband Col. Steven Owens and two loving grandchildren Morgan and Kaitlyn. They reside in Ashburn, Virginia. Sonja is also survived by an extended family of in laws, Nephews, Nieces and many friends. Sonja was an active member of her Church. She enjoyed traveling to Spain and Greece but her favorite was to Hawaii. Each time she visited Hawaii she bought a miniature crystal pineapple. Her collection includes eleven pineapples. She also was a member of PEO and thoroughly enjoyed animals. She loved people especially children with a warm and caring heart. Early morning was her favorite time of day. She enjoyed volunteering at Jefferson Elementary school in Mesa, reading books, watching science fiction movies, doing crossword puzzles, home decorating and entertaining but most of all she loved God and her family. A memorial service will be on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Red Mountain UMC located at 2936 N. Power Road in Mesa, Arizona followed by a reception. Donations may be made in her name to the Red Mountain UMC memorial fund or through the Church for Jefferson Elementary school reading program.
