Talitha M. Bachman

She was born June 26, 1917 in Darlow, Kansas to Bertha Mae Hornbaker Rundell and Clarence Alonza Rundell. She graduated from Halstead Hospital School of Nursing (Halstead, KS) in 1938. In 1939 (February 26) she married Orville Weber Bachman in Halstead, Kansas. Talitha and Orville had four children; Ronald Gene (1939), Neil Allen (1944), Orville Lynn (1950-1952) and Cynthia Sue (1953). They made their home in Halstead and Wichita (KS), and Scottsdale, Mesa, Sun Lakes and Tempe (AZ).

Talitha practiced as a Registered Nurse with time away to manage a growing family, until her retirement in 1982. She worked as a private duty nurse, in a psychiatric hospital and at the Hertzler Clinic in Halstead, KS. In 1966 the Bachmans moved to Arizona. Talitha retired from nursing after 15 years at the Arizona Children's Hospital (Tempe, AZ). The last 5 years she was the Clinic Director of Crippled Children's Services, (Arizona Children's Hospital).

Talitha had many hobbies and excelled at painting, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed quilting, and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She learned to make candy under the guidance of her husband, “Bachie” and became expert at dipping chocolates.

She was a very loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and nurse. She was known wherever she lived for her thoughtfulness and consideration for others. Talitha enjoyed her family and was the happiest in a crowd of her relatives, visiting, reminiscing and telling the old stories once again.

Talitha is survived by her children Ron Bachman (Polly), Albuquerque, NM; Neil Bachman (Jill), Hereford, AZ; and Cynthia Bachman Susong (William), Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren Sheryl Nist. Michelle Susong and Kristen Susong, great-grandchildren Jamie Nist and Jessica Nist; and brother Donald (Linda) Rundell (San Diego, CA).

Talitha is predeceased by her spouse Orville W. Bachman, son Orville Lynn Bachman, siblings Walter Rundell, Elsie Rundell Rose, Charlie Rundell, Nadine Rundell Bainum, Verle Rundell, Lawrence Rundell, Alton Rundell, Frances Rundell Reigle and Eldon Rundell.

A graveside burial service will be at the Halstead (KS) Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, November 1. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, November 25 at Friendship Village (Healthcare Center, Garden level), 2645 East Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ.

We will miss her contagious smile and loving, generous spirit. She was a most beautiful woman, inside and out!
