

Bill was born December 30, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1949. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1950 and married Betsy Auden in 1952. Later in life he earned an associate degree in business and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1967, he married Evelyn Long, his wife of 33 years. As a widower, he later married Kay Stahl in 2006.
Bill started his career managing movie theaters which instilled a lifetime love for movies. Later he spent 50 years in milk and ice cream sales management followed by 10 years in commercial real estate. In his retirement years, Bill was employed by the El Pomar Foundation and worked at the World Arena, the Pikes Peak Center, Will Roger’s Shrine, Adventures Out West and the Carriage Museum.
Throughout his life, he played a vital and active part in the community. He served as a Scout Master and District Commissioner in the Boy Scouts of America; secretary on the Harrison School Board; president of the Knights of the Round Table; PTA president, president of the Harrison Baseball 16 team league; Quality Check Advertising Council; Project School Child, Dale Carnegie, and the United Fund Allocation committee. In honor of his late wife, Evelyn, Bill faithfully volunteered over 10,000 hours at Memorial Hospital cuddling babies and assisting in the Emergency Room. He served on the Council of several churches, once holding the position of Chairperson. He was active for many years at Bethel Lutheran Church and held an associate membership at Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ. Other memberships held with his wife Kay included the Japan America Society and the Opera League.
Bill brought joy to everyone. He donned a festive hat for every occasion and had a passion for Christmas decorations. Over the years, he won many awards for the Best Decorations in the city. Annually until the age of 80, he decorated his house, inside and out, and hosted a two-day Christmas Open House. His hobbies included model trains, a collection of over 300 DVD’s and seeking garage sales.
In 2017, he and Kay downsized and moved into the Summit Glen Retirement Home. In 2021, when his health began to deteriorate, he moved to Mesa, Arizona, to the Summit at Sunland Springs. While living in these communities, Bill quickly became loved by all and was said to be "the heart" of those communities.
Bill dearly loved his family and was a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his wife Kay, his daughter Linda Guy (Darrell), son William (Kathy), stepdaughter Jan Ferguson (Jef), stepsons Ken (Jennifer), Stan (Susan), Tom (Michelle), Brad (Rita) Baker, as well as numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by wives Betsy and Evelyn, parents George and Lillian, brother Earl and stepson Steve Phillips.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 1, 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church located at 4925 Farmingdale Dr., Colorado Springs, CO. A light lunch will follow.
