William W. Wootten, aged 89, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Tempe. Born in Iowa, he enlisted in the US Navy after high school and served both in World War II and the Korean conflict. Educated at the University of Chicago, the University of Iowa, and the University of Minnesota, Bill taught history at Arizona State University for over 35 years before his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth, his son, Jonathan (wife Vickey) and daughter Elizabeth. Three grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Services will be held at University Lutheran Church, 340 E. 15th St., Tempe at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University Lutheran Church.
