Corma Miley Gurley Pogue, aged 86, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Mesquite, Texas. A woman of resilience, deep family devotion, and unwavering faith, she leaves behind a legacy of hard work and an expansive, beloved family.
Early Life and Faith
Born on November 15, 1939, in Mendenhall, Mississippi, Corma was the daughter of Thomas Wade and Wilma Miley. A Christian from an early age, her faith remained the cornerstone of her life. At the age of 14, her family moved to Texas so her father could attend the seminary at Jacksonville College. She spent her high school years in East Texas and was married to Bob Gurley from 1956 until their divorce.
Career and Retirement
Corma was a dedicated professional who spent many years working for Western Electric and its successor, Lucent Technologies, in Mesquite. Following her long working career, she moved to Alba, Texas, where she enjoyed the peace and serenity of her retirement years and shared her life with her husband, William Pogue.
Preceded in Death
Corma was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Wade and Wilma Miley; her brothers, David Miley and Douglas Miley; her sister, Yvonne Jones; her daughter-in-law, Donna Gurley; and her grandsons, Christopher Gurley and Brandon Gurley.
Survivors
She is survived by her husband, William Pogue; her brother, Thomas Miley of Nashville, TN; and her five children:

● Clint Gurley and wife Paula of Overton, TX
● Cynthia Jones and husband Earl of Forney, TX
● Michael Gurley and wife Lori of Garland, TX
● Robert Gurley of North Zulch, TX
Her vast legacy continues through 12 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service
A service to celebrate Corma’s life and faith will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Alba Community Center in Alba, Texas
