Don Edward Adams, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, in Dallas, TX. He was born on July 20, 1943, to Willie Harris Adams & Mildred Inez Adams. Don was raised in the East Dallas area and attended/graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1961. From there, Don enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for four years as a Seaman. Two of those years were served on the Philippine Islands during the Vietnam War. After the war, he was stationed at the Anti-Submarine Fleet Warfare School where he met Martha Kilcrease who worked at the Base Naval Exchange in San Diego, CA. The two were married in May 1965 at the base chapel and in the years that followed they had four boys. Don held a number of jobs early in his life but spent most of his career self-employed with his landscape & irrigation business. In his spare time, Don enjoyed watching shows and movies from the 50s and 60s (Gunsmoke was a favorite) and later shows like Blue Bloods and NCIS.
His family and friends will forever remember many things about him. First, he dearly loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and was a great storyteller & jokester. He loved to fish and hunt, especially with his dad. He led his oldest son’s 10-year-old boys soccer team to a city championship. His parents were charter members of Ferguson Road Baptist Church where he surrendered to Christ and served as a deacon for eight years. He was known for his generosity in his business, assisting those that couldn’t afford lawn care at no cost. His 15-minutes of fame came when he chased down a bank robber attempting a getaway from Buckner State Bank in Dallas and held him at gunpoint until the police arrived!
He is preceded in death by: his father, Willie Harris; his mother, Mildred Inez; his brother, Billy David; his sister, Linda Sue; and his son, Roger Dale.
He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Martha; his son Donnie and wife Kristie; his daughter-in-law Renea; his son Scott and wife Melissa; his son Chris and wife Keri; grandchildren Tyler, Gavin, Kaleigh, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Maddie, McKinley, Luke, Brooklyn; his sister Sondra Lou Hill; his sister Deborah Lee Fulcher; and many nieces and nephews.
