Jane Louise Harmon was born on July 9, 1933 in Ashland, Ohio, to Fred H. Harmon & Evelyn King. She was one of six siblings who grew up on a farm in Ashland. She graduated from high school in Greenwich, Ohio, Class of ’51. Soon after high school, Jane moved to Yuma with her sister and brother-in-law and lived with them for a while. She used to work at the restaurant at the truck stop they owned. This is where she met Wilburn “Ray” Tillery. Ray was a truck driver at that time, and met Jane at the restaurant on his route from Dallas to California. Eventually, Ray left the truck driving job to work at the truck stop with her. They wed on March 10, 1953 in Yuma, Arizona, then soon moved to Dallas and settled there to raise their family. In order to help provide for her family, Jane worked at Woolworth’s for over 10 years, then went to work for Trailways Bus Company. She worked hard for Trailways for 18 years before retiring.
After retirement, Jane enjoyed being with and taking care of her husband and family. She loved playing Bingo and going to the casinos. She always enjoyed reading Romance novels or historical books. She enjoyed camping trips with family and friends. She liked to watch soap operas, especially General Hospital. Once introduced to the computer, you couldn’t get her off of the computer games she enjoyed playing. On occasion, you could catch her singing a Hymn.
Jane was a great cook and liked to cook and participate in potluck meals for gatherings and celebrations. They were also very involved with the Good Bar Senior Citizen Center in Mesquite. Jane and Ray were also involved with the Masonic Lodge; specifically, Jane was involved in the Eastern Star, the Shriners, Scottish Rite, and Daughters of the Nile. They are also long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Mesquite.
Jane was a caring, loving woman who loved her family dearly and took very good care of her husband, Ray. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren referred to her as “Memaw”. Jane will be missed tremendously.
On Sunday, August 24, 2014, Jane Louise Tillery was called to Heaven. She was greeted by her parents, Fred & Evelyn Harmon; her brother, George Harmon; and her sister, Mary M. Crist.
Her life will continue to be remembered and celebrated by her husband of 61 years, Ray Tillery; her children: Jerry Ray Tillery and his wife Kathy of Humble; Glenda Arlene Tillery Hester and her husband Jerry of The Woodlands; and Gary Thomas Tillery and his wife Donna of Tyler; Sisters: Elaine Yates of Yuma, AZ; Lucille Vest of Groesbeck, TX; and Ann Botzer of Ft.
