

Jason Robert Shelton was born on May 24, 1974, in Longview, Texas and he survived by his parents Robert and Sylvia Shelton, brothers Doug and Bradley Kirkwood, niece Kayla Kirkwood, nephew Kody Kirkwood, great niece Zoey Kirkwood, great nephews Kaden, Karsten and Zachariah. Jason went to be with his Lord and savior on a beautiful and snowy Valentine’s Sunday morning. Jason and Mary have been inseparable since they were 6 months old at CDC. Jason and Mary grew up together going to school, working at Chase Bank together, going out to eat, going to all the holiday dances together, giving each other special gifts, they enjoyed laughing and giggling about whatever on the phone. Before Jason passed away Mary gave Jason his last Valentine’s Day card with “to my Honey on Valentine’s Day” “to my love Jason” “My days are brighter, my world is bigger, my heart is happier, Because of you. I love you and I will always love you. My love for you will never end. I love you very much Love, Mary”. Jason was full of Life, he was engaging, energetic, the most delightful individual who was a gentle soul that enjoys people.
Jason attended school at Notre Dame School of Dallas and he graduated in 1996. He volunteered at Scottish Rite Hospital serving in the dietary, selling popcorn, getting the dining area ready for guest, he ensured that the volunteer uniform closet was in order while attending school and after graduating school, he served 27 years and 18,686 hours. A Hero in our Midst Jason won the Texas Hero-2008 Texas Hero Texas National Guard Dallas Mavericks for outstanding service to the Community and to the state of Texas while Volunteering at the Scottish Rite Hospital for children. In addition, Jason's ‘can do’ attitude and determination show in his enthusiasm for his work in the way he interacts with patients, volunteers and hospital staff’ Jason was featured in the Special Olympics 2001 Torchbearer. Jason worked at J.P. Morgan Chase Bank for 21 years. Jason received the Teamwork Award and Shameless Bragging Award from Chase Bank.
Jason started therapeutic horseback riding in 1991 at Equest. Jason loved the thrill and challenge of competition, his niece Kayla would always tell him “to bring home the GOLD'' as well as when he would ride off on the horse he would give her a thumbs up and she would say “RIDE WITH ANGELS” and “GOOD LUCK”. He won the Presentation Levi Strauss award in 2003 of Excellence Riders eligible for this award must meet the following criteria: five years riding with Equest, show considerable improvement in riding skills, participate in special activities, exhibit a positive attitude towards Equest and support its mission. Special consideration will be given to specific obstacles the rider has had to overcome. Jason has proved to be one of Equest most accomplished riders. Jason was profiled by Special Care and Career services in 2001 and 2002. Jason got the White Rock Rotary Club Ed Crow `` Nobody does it Better Award in 2002. Jason was very active in Special Olympics sports such as Cycling, Swimming, Softball, Bowling, Track and Field, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball. Jason was featured on FOX 4 with Clarice Tinsley’s “Hometown Hero” in 2006 and 2009. Jason was nominated for The “Power of the Dream” Black Gala.
