

Joseph A. Jarvis passed away on October 5, 2016 . He was surrounded by family . Mr. Jarvis was born on July 7, 1940 in Balch Springs , Texas to Glenn & Mildred Jarvis . He graduated from Rylie School in the renowned Class of 1959 . He excelled in football and boxing . He won the Dallas Golden Gloves Regional as a heavyweight in the open class three times from 1955 to 1961 . He also won 27 other tournaments. He lost in the State Championship in 1961 by decision after knocking his opponent down twice . He was offered a football scholarship but chose to return home and marry the love of his life, Lyndell Jean Duckworth of Seagoville. They were married 57 years on June 20th .
Joe worked at Central Freight for 40 years until retirement . He held many roles including dockworker , driver and ended his career as Director of Safety for North Texas .
He had many hobbies and interests . He coached youth football and basketball . He was Cubmaster for Troop 851 for 8 years . He coached the Royal Ambassador basketball team. He restored classic Ford cars and enjoyed all things V8 Ford . He followed the Cowboys , Mavericks , the Mesquite Skeeter football, Baylor Bear football and basketball.
He was a member of Edgemont Park Baptist Church for 46 years . He served in many roles including Sunday school teacher, choir participant, and Deacon .
He was a member of Mesquite Lodge # 928 for 47 years . He served as Master of the Lodge in 1989-90 . He earned a lifetime teaching certificate after 25 years as a devoted teacher of the Craft . He was awarded the Golden Trowel in 2008 by the Grand Lodge of Texas for exceptional service.
He is survived by his wife Lyndell, his son Joe Allen and his wife Carla of Richardson ,TX, his son Jerry and his wife Sonya of Dallas .
Three grandchildren Joseph Andrew Jarvis II , Andrea Jarvis, and Sarah Jarvis . Two Step- grandchildren Amanda Euler & Wesley Hammons . Four Great grandchildren Asa Tyler, Tessa Tyler, Kamryn Hammons, and Kadyn Hammons
His brother John Jarvis . His 3 sisters Sue Wood , Dixie Musick and Deborah Jarvis . Also many , many nieces , nephews and grand nieces and nephews . All part of the great family tree of the Jarvis Family .
He was preceded in death by his mother and father .
His brothers Jack Jarvis and Jim Jarvis .
His sisters Shirley Kirkpatrick and Reta Young .
He was a follower of Jesus Christ and an his teachings and has reunited with all of those dearly departed in the a house not made by human hands eternal in heaven .
