Kandankulathu A Abraham

Kandankulathu Abraham (affectionately known as Thankachen) was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a faithful servant of God. He departed from this earthly life to join his heavenly home on November 30, 2025, at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sibling, who now welcome him into eternal rest.

He was born in Naranganam, Kerala, India, on June 4, 1951, to his beloved parents Kandamkulathu Koshy Abraham and Aleyamma Abraham.

After completing high school, he went to St. Thomas College in Kozhencherry from 1967 to 1972 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He then earned a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Thiruvalla Mar Thoma College in 1974. He then proceeded to work at Bharth Sanchar Nigam Limited in Calicut, Kerala, India from 1974 to 1977 as an executive engineer. On April 21, 1977, he married the love of his life, Thankamma Yohannan (Kapplingattil, East Othera, Thiruvalla) and joined her in Lubbock, Texas in December of 1977.

He worked for American Optical Company in Lubbock from 1978 to 1980. He then moved to Dallas and continued working for American Optical Company from 1980 to 1984. While working, he earned a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1984. Upon graduation, he joined Professional Optical Supply as an optician and worked there for 2 years. In 1986, he was recruited to become a partner and ultimately took over ownership of Professional Optical Supply. He maintained that role for 20 years until the company was sold in 2006.

Thankachen and Thankamma built a life together rooted in faith and love. He was a devoted family man and a pillar of the Mar Thoma community. He was a devoted member of the Mar Thoma Church of Dallas from the beginning in Grand Prairie to the formation of Sehion Mar Thoma Church in Plano, TX. Throughout his life, he was deeply involved in the church serving as vice-president, Malayalam layleader, Garland Area Prayer Group leader and other leadership roles in various organizations (Edavaka Mission and Sehion STARS).

After retirement, he and Thankamma devoted their life to gardening, cooking, vacationing and spending time with their grandson. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Thankamma; his son, Dr. Aby Abraham and daughter-in-law, Susan Abraham. He leaves behind one grandchild, Ethan Abraham.

He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. K.A. Koshy, Dr K.A. Varghese, K.A. Benjamin, Professor John K Abraham; and sisters, Kunjamma John, Mariamma Baby, Annamma Ninan, and Susamma Varughese (USA). Additionally, he is survived by numerous cousins, a large extended family and a circle of dear friends who will remember him with love and gratitude.

His presence, wisdom and kindness will be greatly missed. He will forever be remembered for his smile, fortitude, preparedness and wit. Thankachen lived a life dedicated to God, family and serving others. He brought joy to every room he entered. His profound impact touched the lives of all who knew him and he will continue to live on in their hearts. His absence leaves a profound void, but we find comfort in the belief that we will be reunited with him in eternity.
