

PHILLIP THOMAS YOUNG, 79, of Mesquite, TX passed away on July 5th, 2021. He was a precious person, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was born on September 13th, 1941 in Dallas, TX. He is preceded in death by parents, John Young and Edith Chrietzberg. Daughter, Sheri Stephenson. Sisters, Francile Yarborough and LaJoy Garrett.
He is survived by wife, Ann Lawrence. Son, Phillip Thomas Young II “Chip”, and wife Theresa of Waxahachie, TX, Stepchildren Guy Lynn Greer and Melissa Tidwell Smith of Mesquite, TX, Granddaughters Andrea Holder and husband Dwayne, Ashleigh Wilkinson and husband Tommy of Waxahachie, TX, Step Granddaughters Monica Lynn Greer and Adrianna Michelle Greer of Dallas, TX. Great Grandchildren Mariah, Camden, Isabella, and Dominic Holder. Ian and Eligh Wilkinson, and Addison King.
Phil graduated from Mesquite High School. He then went on to serve 2 years in the United States Coast Guard. Afterwards he served as a Sargeant for 4 years in the United States Army. Upon completing his service, he attended Southern Methodist University and graduated in the top ten percent of his class with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1969. He was also an elected member of Beta Gamma Sigma at SMU. Phil was elected as Director of The Greater Dallas Board of Realtors when it was first organized. He worked as a Real Estate Broker in Mesquite, TX for 50 years. He was elected Councilman for the Mesquite City Council in 1982 - 1984. He was one of the original Charter members of the Mesquite Elks Lodge. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 504 on Main Street for 5 years. He operated several real estate offices in Mesquite with branches in East Texas. For the past 20 years he operated “Network Realtors”. He participated on several pool teams for 30 years. He loved to play golf and participated in many tournaments. He had a passion for sailing and at one time owned 4 different sailboats. In addition, he loved cruising on his 4 motorcycles. Phil was a highly intelligent man who could converse with anyone on any level. He loved all and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home located at 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75149. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 17th at 10:00am. Following the funeral, a Graveside service will be held at Mesquite Cemetery located next to City Lake Park.
A reception will be held after the services for family and friends at the American Legion Post 504 located at 130 East Main Street, Mesquite, TX 75149.
