Shirley Ann Porter, age 87, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 in Mesquite, Texas. She was born April 14, 1935 in Taft, Texas to Hal Lee and Ferne Tilley. Shirley was raised in McRae, Arkansas and graduated from the Oklahoma School of Nursing in 1956. She married James D. Porter in 1955 and the couple had 4 children. She was a registered nurse at Presbyterian Hospital where she worked for more than 20 years. In her spare time she enjoyed painting, reading, and visiting family members. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving and caring person - deeply devoted to her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James D. Porter, her parents Ferne and Hal Lee Tilley, and sisters Edith Denson, Viola Culberson, Verleen David, and Virginia (Het) Fulfer, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sons Kevin Porter and his wife Beck Gilbert, Carl Porter and his wife Christy Woods, and daughters Sandra Porter and Sarah Porter, her grandchildren Starr Jarvis, Jasmine Jarvis, and Nicholas Garza, Michael Casenave, and Jessica Skinner, and her great grandchildren Heaven Jarvis, Makayla Mueller, Abigail Porter-Michael, and Noelle Porter-Michael, Estella, Harvey, and Charles Skinner, Jordan Young and Skye Jarvis. She is also survived by her sisters Vernice Eakin, Georgia Craig, and Kay Green, and brothers HL Tilley, Jr. and Cecil Tilley as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. During her life she served as a registered nurse in emergency rooms, operating rooms, and on the floor. She was a nurse supervisor for a while at the BB Owen Memorial Hospital in Richardson, Texas before finishing out her career as an operating room nurse at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She raised three generations of children while working full time.
