Bernice Durel

Bernice Geis Durel, age 96, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2015. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on October 24, 1919. She was a life-long resident of New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana, residing at Metairie Manor for the past 12 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Louis Durel, her parents Edward Martin Geis and Maggie Luzenburg Geis, her siblings, Edward Geis, Mary Ellen Geis Sears, John Geis, Elvera Geis Boyer, and Marion Geis Luttman. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Egan Hospice and The Carpenter House of St. Joseph for their dedication and loving care extended to Bernice. Deep appreciation is also expressed to Shirley Pons and Nellie Moralez, two of Bernice's very dear and close friends for their long friendship and dedication in caring for and supporting her.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning, October 21, 2015, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana 70006. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
