Betty JoAnn Lawson

Betty JoAnn McCoy Lawson, a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and “Maw Maw” to all, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, William McCoy and Elizabeth Branam, her siblings, William Branam McCoy, JD McCoy and Gussie Mabel McCoy and her great grandchildren, Robert Mercadal, Jr. and Christopher Peterson. Loving mother of Jacqlyn “Jackie” Peterson. Grandmother of Rhonda Peterson Mercadal and Michelle Peterson. Great Grandmother of, Crystal Peterson Meyers and Victoria Manso. Great-Great Grandmother of Robert John Mercadal, III, Alyssa Rae Allen and Roger Meyers, Jr. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. JoAnn was born in Cleveland, TN, but spent most of her adult life in New Orleans and Metairie, LA. JoAnn spent her entire life giving to and caring for others. She was also a devoted member and servant to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. JoAnn was a blessing to everyone. She retired in 1984 after 30 years as an Administrative Assistant to Isidore Cohen, MD at the LSU School of Medicine. She also loved football and was one of the most loyal New Orleans Saints fans from day one at Tulane Stadium. She stood by them, no matter what! Her kind spirit will be missed by all.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. Martins Episcopal Church, Metairie, LA on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 10 AM until 11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie, LA. Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA is in charge of arrangements.
