Although Bill was originally from Illinois, he fell in love with the South when his family moved to Jackson, MS for a time during WWII. He graduated high school in Illinois and enrolled in the University of Southern Mississippi where he was on the golf and basketball teams. His time at USM was interrupted by service in the US Army during the Korean conflict. After graduation, he moved to the New Orleans area and stayed close for the rest of his life – including 25 years in Diamondhead, MS where he was a member and property owner for over 40 years.
Bill loved the game of golf. He was a longtime member of Lakewood and Diamondhead Country Clubs and is a former club champion of both. He played in and won many amateur tournaments along the gulf coast from New Orleans to Florida and played in national tournaments including the US Public Links and the US Senior Amateur. He could shoot his age for consecutive years from his 60s through his 80s. He had an astonishing 25 hole-in-ones in his lifetime and enjoyed passing his love of the game to his son and grandsons.
Bill was a salesman for most his life. He was good at it because he loved people and people loved him. He had many friends and was referred to as a true gentleman by those that knew him.
He will be forever in our hearts.
