Born in Donaldsonville, LA, she graduated from St. John School in Plaquemine, LA and attended Louisiana State University where she met her husband, Ned Newton Read.
After living for a short time in New Orleans, she and Ned moved to Metairie, LA to raise their daughters.
She was an artist most of her adult life, her mediums primarily oil and acrylic painting. Jane was an active member of the Metairie Art Guild.
She worked as a draftsman with J. J. Krebs & Sons Engineering; and at the Cenacle Retreat House in Metairie, doing calligraphy and artwork.
For many years later in her life, Jane enjoyed her position as a docent at Destrehan Plantation. This allowed her to share her love of the history of south Louisiana and to use her talents in fine hand work, sewing and costumes.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Elise Read (Robert Hodges) and Leslie Anne Read (Kent B. Westmoreland). She is also survived by her sisters, Joan L. Lasak and Julie L. Kraft, and nieces and nephews.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Jumel Barker Landry and Lucille D. Landry, her sister Susan Margaret Landry, and husband Ned Newton Read.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell, LA on Thursday, June 2, 2022, with visitation from 2:30 to 3:00 pm and mass at 3:00 pm. Thereafter, a gathering of family and friends will be held at a residence in Eden Isles in Slidell.
