Those of us who collect Louisiana duck decoys owe Charlie a tremendous debt of gratitude. From now on when I turn over an old decoy that was once in his collection and see his brass tag, I'll smile and remember Charles Frank.

Sincere condolences to Mrs Frank, India (and Jules) on this loss.  He truly lived a wonderful life for which we know his family and friends are most grateful.  God Bless.

 My top ten regrets.....although I hope  that Charles will forgive me because I know only too well that he lived in the place of "no regrets".

1.    Charles never explained the secret.... how he could, with unleashed enthusiasm, mow through an entire box of cookies...double creams, whatever,....and have all that unbridled pleasure without any discomfort....


2.    I never could get Charles to explain how he, a true political hawk,  could perform such a wonderful rendition of "Where have all the flowers gone," as he did that day 15 years ago, when he whistled wistfully while gandering at the wonder of Lake Atitlan in the mountains of Guatemala.. I did inquire that day, but all I got back was his trademark Cheshire smile. And, what a broad and knowing grin that always was.

3.  That's the same grin that caught the eye of the fairer sex as he traipsed across the world.  How did he do that?   Was it the smile or the hair or the height?  Or, was it the tease knowing that his heart, body, and mind belonged thoroughly to Jean?

4.   I never fully understood his politics...whenever I tried he would almost hurt himself railing against whatever, thus upsetting Jean that he was upsetting himself.   She's the only one that could tame his politics...


5.   How he could have taken the wives fishing with their husbands, without taking one of the wive's little boy (i.e., me).  I would have been so useful on the boat at 5.


6.   How he came  to have both Alpha Male and Innocent Wonder-struck Boy DNA all spiraled together.  What a great mix - maybe it explains #3...


7.   Charles was wise and a devoted man of history.  He acknowledged that all  idolized men have clay feet, but I never dared to ask him about his....rather large ones,at that.


8.   Charles repeated many stories... I will regret not hearing them over and over.

9.   I regret letting my youthful leftist politics ever divide our generations, having learned in later years (partly from Charles) that love trumps all.

10.  A favorite movie of Charles was Kipling's  "The Man Who Would Be King".  I regret not knowing what it would have been like if he had been a king...even here in America.

Mrs Jean Mr frank will be sadley missed he was such a nice person, and could alays make me laugh.  I will miss him.

Joan and I were deeply saddened by the passing of Charles. We enjoy our time spent together at OWAA meetings, especially the day we toured  the Wisconsin Capital. Charles was a gentleman's gentlemen. He will be missed. You are in our prayers.

Jean, My deepest condolences to you and your family. Charlie was a great influence on my life and that of my father. He offered me many oppurtunities and helped me tremendously as a young man. He is always on my mind when I have a hunting trip our look at my fathers carvings or the decoys they collected. I truly will miss this great man.

     Sorry I as unable to attend the service yesterday, but wanted to express my condolences to you and your family. As a decoy collector,I can say that no one has contributed more to our hobby in Louisiana than 
Charlie, his many articles and books will be read and reread for years to come. The information he collected and published during his life was boundless and invaluable. He was a icon and truly "Mr. Louisiana Duck Decoy."

On behalf of the Bird Man of Grand Isle and the Santiny family, I offer my condolences.  He will be sadly missed.

Mr. Charles was a great inspiration to me and many other members of the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Assoc. He will be missed. My prayers and thoughts are with Ms. Jean and the family.

My deepest condolences. Mr. Frank was a tremendous influence on me, and I always was grateful for his humor and generosity toward me. He lived with purpose and pride, and did so to the very fullest. He will be missed.

It was a privilege to have known Mr. Charles. I enjoyed his colorful stories and always learned something from him. He will be sorely missed by everyone in LOWA. I know he is now catching that trophy Peacock Bass he always talked about. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Jean and her family.

Ann and I always felt privileged to know Charles and Jean.  They were fixtures at Southeastern Outdoor Press Association meetings for many years and a delight to see at those professional gatherings. His knowledge of waterfowl lore and particularly decoys and carvings placed Charlie squarely in the forefront of students of this signficant aspect of American folk art and he made important contributions to the field.
He was a fine communicator and a finer individual.  Jean, our thoughts are with you even as we treasure the man and the memories he gave us.

Personally, and on behalf of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, I offer sincere condolences to Jean and family. Charles was a 21-year member of our organization and a treasured friend who will be sorely missed. We are blessed to have known him.

I am so thankful that I was able to sit beside Charles on a swamp boat ride this past August.  Even though temperatures were scorching, he and his lovely wife were there and full of life as ever.  He shared much wisdom with me as we viewed the swamp offerings of the day.  My only regret is that I did not accept his invitation to go visit them in their home before he passed on. My father Donald Naquin is extremely sorry he could not attend Mr. Frank's services. His health is not well at this time. He has many fond memories of trips they made together bird watching and fishing. My father thought of him as a very dear friend and he will be sadly missed. But feels blessed to have known him and Mr Frank leaves with him many, many memories that will be remembered always.
