

Cora “Toots” Marie Burns, age 86, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away February 17, 2016 at 11:45 a.m. Cora was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 1, 1929. It is there that she met her late husband Lawrence “Larry” C. Burns. Shortly afterwards they moved to New Orleans, where they resided for over 57 years. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Cora is survived by three sons, Gary M. Burns, Lawrence C. Burns Jr. and John M. Burns, three grandchildren, Douglas Burns, Dustin Burns, and Matthew Burns, three great grandchildren, Mia Burns, Tyler Burns, and Ayden Burns and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence C. Burns, her youngest son, Donald R. Burns (Ricky), her parents, Millard & Frances Knapp, and sisters, Cecilia Laska, Agnes Oleniacz, Eleanor Fisette, Helen Upson, and her brother Millard Knapp.
Cora spent a good part of her life raising her 4 boys which she loved dearly. She was also a dedicated member of the First United Pentecostal Church in New Orleans which she attended for over 50 years. Cora loved to sing in the choir and participate in other church events. Additionally she provided cleaning services for the church and worked in the Church Daycare Center. She also spent several years at Metairie Manor Nursing Home caring for the elderly. Whatever Cora set her heart and hands to do, she did meticulously and with honor.
