Doris Mayer Berthelot

Doris Mayer Berthelot, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born on November 14, 1926 in New Orleans to the late Frank and Melanie Kreutz Mayer. Doris was married to the late Alvin “Al” Berthelot, Jr. for 63 cherished years. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their three daughters, Charlene Berthelot Shockley (Dwayne), Ellen Berthelot and Kay Berthelot Wessels (Kenneth).

Doris touched countless lives with her kindness to friends and those in the community. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and her family faithfully and unconditionally. She supported her husband, a Navy Veteran who served in World War II, throughout his career. After retirement, they traveled extensively enjoying their trips around the world. Together they were members of First English Lutheran Church and previous members of St. John Lutheran Church. Both were active in the Dixie Chain Square Dance Club. Doris was also a member of the Merry Mrs., a group of twelve high school friends dedicated for 50 years to remain close after graduation through laughter, games and fellowship. She was a sharp and avid bridge player who played weekly to keep her mind alert. She was a native of New Orleans and resided in Metairie.

She is survived by her daughters, her grandchildren, Drew Smart (Alison), Stephen Shockley, Kendra Linck (Cameron) and Courtney Wessels, and her great-grandchildren: Olivia Smart, Lincoln Smart, Miles Smart, Peyton Shockley, Cohen Shockley, Chloe Shockley and Baylor Linck. All will remember her with love and admiration. She was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Faucheux, Melanie Romaine and brother Frank V. Mayer, M.D.

A private service will be held at Lake Lawn Park where Doris will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Al.
