Doris Mary Jacomine Griffin

Doris Mary Jacomine Griffin – 9/21/1924 – 9/30/2014 - joined her parents Lydia Gilly and Nichole Jacomine, Jr., in the everlasting peace of her Lord Jesus. Doris was an extraordinary woman whose strong values shaped the lives of her son David Wylie Griffin and her loving nieces and nephews and their spouses - Sheryll Cascio, Betty and Joseph Ortego, Frank and Carol Cascio, Lydia Cascio and Nick Cascio. Born in New Orleans, Doris showed incredible strength and conviction, blazing new paths unusual for women of her time. After receiving a BS in Zoology and Chemistry from LSU, she enlisted in the Air Force as an officer. She spent many of her adult years moving to various Air Force bases in Fort Worth, TX, Atwater, CA, Riverside, CA and Omaha, NE. She moved back to Metairie, LA in 1969 to enjoy old friends, family and favorite pastimes – especially fishing on the bayou. Doris tried several careers, notably communications, social work and finally spent her final working years at the Louisiana State Employment Service counseling job seekers. For the past last four years she resided in Houston, TX. Doris lived a life filled with art and service. She loved her son David deeply, celebrating his many successes, always proud of her dear boy. Those of us left behind will miss her wit, opinions, and generosity. A memorial service and funeral mass will be held on November 8 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie followed by interment at St. Louis #3 cemetery.
