Edgar Eli Smith, Jr. “Smitty” passed away at East Jefferson Hospital after a lengthy illness on Saturday, December 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of 18 years to Lana Turner Schneckenburger Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joel Salvatore Smith. Father of Diana Smith and Vicki Smith Froiland (Martin). Stepfather of Donna Powers (Mike), Lana DeNicola (Ross) and Wendy Brahney (Jody). Stepgrandfather of Rita, Mason, Blake, Ross, Seth, Ryan, Gavin and Brooke. Son of Edgar Eli Smith, Sr. and Olivia Crais Smith. Brother of Mary Shannon. Also survived by his first cousin, Dr. Tom Crais who was like a brother to Smitty and by many loving nieces and nephews. Smitty was a U.S. Army veteran and was a farrier who specialized in American Saddlebred Horses. Smitty's family would like to extend a special thank you to Smitty's special friend, Dr. Dugan and also to Dr. Roach and all the nurses and staff at East Jefferson Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial gathering at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Thursday morning, December 29, 2016 beginning at 9:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
