Ewald F.Groetsch Jr. passed away peacefully on the evening of April 6, 2021 at the age of 76, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones as he took his last breath. He will be sadly missed.
Prior to his retirement, Ewald worked for a Metairie based food brokerage firm. The managers at his primary account, Schwegmann Supermarkets, always welcomed him with a warm smile. He was gifted with a personality and good looks that allowed him to sell most anything. In his younger days, with a 200 + average, he was known as one of the top bowlers in the New Orleans area. The highlight of his bowling years was to win five consecutive weeks on a locally televised sporting show. He also excelled at the game of poker and will be missed by his many friends at Harrah’s Casino where he and his Dad simultaneously won a major poker jackpot in 2003.
Ewald was married to the love of his life Patricia (Patsy), who he had met while still attending De La Salle High School. They were married at the age of 18 and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. During a series of illnesses over the years, Patsy became Ewald’s loving caregiver. She was always there when he was in need and stood vigil as he passed into the next life.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ricky (Kyle) and Chris along with his siblings, Mike (Barbara), Barry (Nancy), Jeanne Jarrett (Mark), and Brenda. In addition, he leaves behind Kay Groetsch, his granddaughter, Bailey and great-granddaughter, Henley. Ewald was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Ewald and Johnteen and father/mother-in-laws, Joseph and Josie Saltaformaggio.
At his request, there will be no formal funeral. There will be a celebration of life gathering for loved ones and friends on Saturday, April 10th at 1pm, hosted at the residence of a family member. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
