Gasper Ronald Irwin Sr.

Gasper “Gabby” Irwin Sr. passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, at the age of 76. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in the Irish Channel before moving to Kenner. He graduated from the Kenner Police Department Academy on May 5, 1975, proudly serving the community in law enforcement for 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Irwin and Olga Bongiovani Irwin, and his brother, Louis Irwin. He is survived by siblings, Eugene “Butch” Irwin and George Irwin. Children, Angela Scamardo (Joe), Gabby Irwin Jr. (Jonna), and Mark Irwin (Jenny). Grandchildren, Tasha Irwin, Nicole McDaniel (Tim), Anthony Thebault (Liz), Joseph Scamardo (Alex), Matthew Scamardo, Brittany Norris, and Colin Irwin. He also leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on May 16, 2022, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am - 11:00 am with a Mass to begin at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
