George Joseph Besse

George Joseph Besse, age 86 years died at River Parishes Hospital on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 7:35 AM. Husband of the late Willie Belle Ray Besse, to whom he was married over 50 years. Father of Vernon “Duke” Besse Sr. (Susan) and Georgia F. Marchetta (Joe) and the late Esther Weldon. Brother of Patricia Manuel, Emory Besse (Mary) and the late Josephine Delaune, Claudia Elsten, Eugene and Charles Ray Besse. Son of the late Eugene and Andrea Bollotte Besse. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Besse was a native of Morgan City, LA, a veteran of World War II as a Navy Seabee throughout the Asiatic-Pacific area. He retired as a Teamster transport truck driver with over 40 years of service.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass from the Metairie home of THARP-SONTHEIMER-THARP, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. at 43rd Street, on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment in Lakelawn Park Mausoleum. Information: (504) 835-2341.
