George Timothy Gernon Jr. (III)

George Timothy Gernon Jr. (III), age 94, of Metairie, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Diane Courtenay Gernon. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and George Gernon. He was a devoted father to three children, Michele Gernon Camet (Rick), Suzanne Gernon Mair (Steve) and George Timothy Gernon IV. He is also survived by a brother, Roy Riecke Gernon (Paula) and two sisters, Jeanne Benson and Linda Livaudais. A third sister, Patricia Fitzgerald predeceased him. He attended St. Catherine of Siena grammar school and Jesuit High School. He also attended Loyola University after which he served in the United States Marine Corps and the Louisiana National Guard. After serving in the Louisiana National Guard, he became a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena and later St. Philip Neri. He worked as an accountant for Tulane Hardwood Lumber Company for many years then for Westminster Towers until retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to write poetry. His favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He will be greatly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at 1:00 pm at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, Louisiana on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. The interment will be private at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
