Harold W "Skip" Hensel passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday March 14, 2024 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carollyn C Hensel. Theirs was a special love from the time they first met, through life's ups and downs, even to the point of being able to care for one another in their waning years.
He was a wonderful father to son Harold Christopher Hensel and daughter Hollis Hensel Bertrand (Nicholas Bertrand). His love, devotion and pride extended to his grandsons, Ian Nicholas Bertrand and Cooper Edward Bertrand. Skip was born and raised in Saddle Brook New Jersey, moving to Louisiana for College. He was an accountant for Freeport McMoran until he retired. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Irwin Hensel and his mother Marie Banning Hensel.
Skip was a nationally known Presidential Historian, enjoying many relationships both personal and professional. He would use his earnings from his paper route to go into New York City to purchase grab bags from the local historical shops. He personally corresponded and met with several Presidents. He was an active member and past Vice President of the United Autograph Collectors Club. He was a member of the Manuscript Society, contributing articles to both organizations. He was a board member and past President of the Crescent City Stamp Club. His knowledge and long term memory continued to amaze everyone.
We would like to thank Hospice Specialists of Louisiana for their 18 months of exclusive care until the very end.
