She is preceded in death by her father, Ronald Lemerond, grandmother, Patricia Carter, and great aunt, Norma Carter.
She is survived by her mother, Lisa Lemerond, her siblings, Jeannine Lemerond, Melanie Bagnell (Joseph), and Paul David, her aunt, Robin Carter, her nieces and nephews, August, Gabriella, Magnolia, Leo, and Camellia, her dear friends, Angel Cantrelle, Roxane Lemoine Smith, and Karla Morales, and her beloved cat, Lovebug.
As an active young girl, she often jumped on her big wheels or bicycle first thing in the morning and woke up her neighbors in Gentilly Woods. She spent most of her time outside each day, playing, visiting elderly neighbor friends, and rescuing animals.
Heather’s passion for animals was well known. She rehabilitated and rescued dozens of animals, including cats, dogs, birds, fish, ferrets, and even a baby opossum. More than anything, Heather was a cat lady and she adored her cat Lovebug. Heather was not only good at receiving pets, but also at giving them, and was known to show up at your door with a surprise pet as a gift.
She had only a handful of foods in her rotation but even as a kid she would spend her last bit of allowance to buy you crawfish, even though she couldn’t stand them herself. She never drove, but would take a cab across the city to help a friend in need.
Heather loved talking on the phone and keeping everyone updated on absolutely everything - neighbors having new grandchildren, friends gaining or losing a pet, or deaths of a friend of a friend. If you went to a store with Heather, you were bound to run into one of her old teachers, bus drivers, neighbors, or friends. She genuinely cared about what was going on in everyone’s lives, so you might be there a while. She was an unforgettable character with a big heart who spoke her mind, often with unfiltered words, and with her classic facial expressions that let you know exactly how she felt. There could never be another Heather Lemerond and if you were lucky enough to have her in your world, you can at least find comfort in knowing that it will be impossible to forget her.
