Ilean Carrington

Ilean DeGrado Carrington, born July 13, 1923, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Leon E. Carrington, Jr. for 69 years. Loving and devoted mother of Terrie Laird (Ronald); Leon Carrington (James Frey); special daughter, Estelle Palmisano (Wayne); special grandson, Nicolas Palmisano (Caritas) and special great-grandchildren, Isabella and Luca Palmisano. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Tommy Carrington, and sisters-in-law, Anna Smith and Betty Trosclair, and many nieces and nephews. Ilean was the youngest of twelve children and was preceded in death by her parents, Vincenzo and Maria Samperi DeGrado; brothers: Frank, Sam, Anthony, Joe and Leon DeGrado; sisters: Lucy Cuccia, Sarah DeGrado, Claire Lewis, Billie Schumacher, Jane Greco, Fannie Mercier and special granddaughter, Mardee Palmisano.

The family would like to especially thank the caregivers, Joyce Wenger, Sharon Cortez, Danielle Dufrene, Nicki Plaisance, Toni Stone, Yolanda Triche, Kiley Warren and Liz Warren who assisted with her devoted and loving care. The family also greatly appreciates the excellent caregiving provided by River Region Hospice.

A private burial service was held at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum for Ilean D. Carrington, along with her husband Leon E. Carrington, Jr., who passed away on July 22, 2012. Father Bernard Francis officiated.
