Irene Emelda Helmer Hurley

Irene Emelda Helmer Hurley passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the age 87. Beloved wife of the late Edward Joseph Hurley Jr. Loving mother of MaryLynn Pitre (Phillip), Barbara Petty (Robert), Aline Sullwold (the late David), and the late Edward Joseph Hurley III. Sister of the late Lawrence Helmer, and Aunt of Hazel Helmer. Survived by two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons. She was a native of Barataria and resident of Harahan and parishioner of St. Rita for over 50 years, where she was a member of the Altar Society. Irene devoted her life to caring for her loving family, and was also a talented seamstress by trade. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass from ST. RITA, 7100 Jefferson Highway, Harahan, on Monday afternoon, November 30, 2015 at 1:00. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, and again on Monday in church from 11:30 until the service.
